Head of Customs Public Relations and Counseling Subdirectorate, Budi Prasetiyo, explained that the prohibition of kratom export in crumb form is stipulated in Minister of Trade Regulation (Permendag) Number 20 of 2024.

Budi elaborated that as of June 20, 2025, Customs has found six indications of export violations for Mitragyna Speciosa products, committed by six different exporters.
“Product discrepancies were found with the provisions of the Permendag, which came into effect on March 13, 2025, where the exported products were still in the form of leaf crumbs, not fine powder with a maximum size of six hundred microns as required,” he stated. It is known that the 160 tons of kratom whose export was canceled consisted of 5,480 bales, 1,720 bags, and 480 SA (presumably sacks/small bags).
From Customs’ findings, it was revealed that two Export Declaration (PEB) documents had been canceled. One exporter is still undergoing the summons process, and three others have been issued a Certificate of Goods Testing and Identification Results (SHPIB). “Following up on these findings, the solution provided is the cancellation of exports for re-grinding to comply with the applicable regulations,” Budi explained.
